THIS LISTING IS FOR A LOVELY MEIJI PERIOD JAPANESE SATSUMA PORCELAIN ENAMELED MINIATURE 2 1/2 TEAPOT OR SAKE POT WITH GOLD TRIM. ELABORATE PICTORIAL SCENE ON EACH SIDE ONE WITH MEN, THE OTHER SIDE WITH WOMEN. MATCHING BORDER DESIGN ON LID WITH SMALL ROUND "MELON" FINIAL. ORIGINALLY THE POT WOULD HAVE HAD A WOVEN "BAMBOO" HANDLE WHICH IS CURRENTLY MISSING WITH SILK THREADS THAT WOULD HAVE BEEN UNDER THE HANDLE STILL SHOWING ON EACH SIDES.

MEASURES 2 1/2" HIGH, 4" WIDE AND 3 DEEP. THE CONDITION OF THE POTTERY IS EXCELLENT WITH NO CHIPS, CRACKS OR REPAIRS.

THE ENAMELING AND GILDING ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH ONLY MINOR CRAZING WHICH IS NORMAL ON SATSUMA POTTERY. THE POT IS SIGNED ON THE BASE IS JAPANESE SCRIPT WITH "MON" MARK. SATSUMA IS A CREAMY EARTHENWARE USUALLY DECORATED WITH JAPANESE FIGURES WITH EXPRESSIVE FACIAL FEATURES. THIS WARE WAS GENERALLY CREATED FOR THE EXPORT MARKET OF THE MID 19th CENTURY TO CATER TO WESTERN MARKETS.
