This beautiful impressive egg shaped antique Japanese ginger jar is a stunning piece from the Meiji period, featuring intricate designs of hand painted birds quail with scenes of the sea, mountains and lush foliage very artistically painted. The lid completes the completed rounded shape with the lid so cleverly made, one can hardly see the start and finish of where it sits. The handle or finial is scalloped very neatly and there are two applied butterflies to the outside opposite upper sides. The jar is made of fine porcelain and has a three footed base, adding to its elegance and charm.
