Antique 19th C Japanese Satsuma Moriage Vase / Lamp Meiji Period Signed Kusube

Antique 19th C Japanese Satsuma Moriage Vase / Lamp Meiji Period Signed Kusube. (Before wares were required to be marked for export). Condition is Used and VERY GOOD. No damage, chips or cracks. Some age related wear and crazing to the base.

Their is a hole drilled in the base probably for an electric cable and lamp conversion at some point in its history. The vase could easily be converted into a lamp. The base is signed "Kusube" in red. Sennosuke was famous for producing traditional Satsuma ware of excellent quality from his kiln and studio in Kyoto. The Kusube Sennosuke kiln closed down in 1940 approx.

A year before Sennosuke died in 1941. It was not continued or proceeded by any of his four sons. There are no known or recorded employees working for Sennosuke, who spent a lifetime mastering his craft and producing traditional Japanese wares primarily for the tourist and later, export markets to the West. Beautifully decorated six-sided Satsuma Moriage vase will make a great addition to any genuine collection.
