A stunning Japanese Satsuma stoneware vase. An export piece dating to the early 20th century. The body is highly decorated by hand with raised coloured slip ware (moriage), creating intricate floral patterns in vibrant blues, yellow, red and green.
The cream underglaze has a pleasing crackle pattern. Two ornate pierced handles sit either side of the neck. The vase is in very good condition with no cracks or restoration.A few small dots of the moriage slip has fallen away over time, but the vast majority of the decoration remains intact. The base mark translates as "right nine", which is thought to indicate this vase's position in a collection of similar ceramics.
