For your consideration is this antique Satsuma earthenware Japanese, Meiji-era vase or urn. This piece has two separate panels. The front panel is of two geisha walking along a riverside Japanese garden with mountains in the background. The backside is of a beautiful Japanese garden.

All the images and details are done in Satsuma relief. The vase measures approximately 9.5 inches tall x 18 inches in diameter (measured at it's largest area on the body). There is some gold loss in places where it would have been handled or cleaned, but it hardly detracts from the item's splendor.

There are no chips, cracks or breaks present. Zan family produced pottery for centuries in Kyoto from 1645 to 1932. The most collected pieces are from the years 1875 to 1927 as led by. Zan exported heavily from 1875, especially to America. Zan signature is on a wide variety and wide quality of work. The handwritten signature means that the well-known. Logo written in a square, which was registered in 1909 was not used.
