Antique Meiji period Japanese Satsuma pottery large vase by Shinmura Sei (Niimura/Shinshu), is of a lovely elegant rounded cylindrical form and beautifully and finely hand decorated in coloured enamels and gilding with blue birds perching on branching chrysanthemum and peony. The back side has a blue bird flying above a bamboo framework trellis supporting red and white chrysanthemum's. This gorgeous large piece of Japanese satsuma has a border to the top and bottom and is signed in black just above the lower border on the side'Shinmura Sei'. It is in very good condition with no damage or repair, and very little if any wear, there are some tiny minor pit marks in the glaze (please see photos).
