A really nice example of a Miniature Antique Japanese Vases signed by Shuzan. Dating from the late Meiji period.
Very nice detail in the decoration which is incredibly hard to produce on such a small vase. Shuzan was a well known Japanese ceramic artist of the Meiji and Taisho period who worked for a number of studios but much of his work was done for the Yasuda company. It is possible this was made for the Yasuda company.
The Yasuda company was founded in 1896 by two brothers, Gensei and Yoshizaburo Yasida. Based in Kyoto they manufactured and distributed various wares including cloisonne, basket wares and ceramics during the late Meiji Period. Today they are most known for their Satsuma wares. They actively sort to hire the very best Satsuma ceramic artists of the day and gained a reputation for very high quality Satsuma ware working with artists such as Ryozan, Sozan, Hozan, Kizan Seikozan and of course Shuzan. Satsuma Miniature vases are rare to find.Dimensions Diameter just under 2.5cm (1") Height 5cm (2"). Item is listed elsewhere so may be withdrawn from sale at any time without notice. Item will be extremely well packed.
