The vase is covered with a deep blue cobalt glaze and decorated with gilded floral and scroll patterns. This is a great example of good quality antique Japanese export Satsuma-yaki or Satsuma ware from the late 19th century dating from around 1900 during the Meiji period. The vase is 3 7/16 inches (8.7 cm) high and 2 inches (5 cm) in diameter, it weighs 103 grammes unpacked. It is in excellent antique condition with some very minor rubbing to the gilding and the usual crazing to the glaze. We have a very similarly decorated vase but very slightly larger with a slightly different shape listed separately.
