Japanese Satsuma Ware Dragon Vases. A pair of Meiji period Japanese satsuma ware vases. They are of tall drawn neck form and have dragons coiled around the necks.

The bodies are painted with female and child figures and they are painted in the opposing form suggesting an original true pairing. Interestingly though one dragon is modelled with mouth slightly open, the other closed.

Note also the female figure in the necks depicted with a torii gate to her hairpiece. There are no marks on these examples and they are likely from the Kyoto Awata region. Fine crazing as expected for satsuma ware. Some age related ware, some darkening of patches and spots underglaze. Foot rim on one with some losses which appear to be breakout from the firing process. Height: 30 cm (11 3/4 inches). Width: 17 cm (6 5/8 inches).

Weight: 1842 grams (before packing). If for any reason you are unhappy with your item please let us know as soon as possible, and we will do our best to put things right.
