Japanese Satsuma Ware Pottery Plate with Watermill & Mountains by Yuzan Meiji
A nicely detailed Japanese Satsuma ware slightly dished plate by Yuzan. It features a watermill and other rural dwellings with thatched roofs.

There is a stream, a bridge and a small lake with mountains in the distance. The decoration has very finely painted gilt lines creating a textural effect in areas. To the reverse are three holes in the foot rim to allow for hanging.

Yuzan items are quite uncommon and their items are usually very finely detailed as with this example. It dates to the Meiji period, late 19th century.

Very good for period with little wear. Small air bubble pop to reverse from firing. The crazing is of course an intentional aspect of Satsuma ware. Diameter: 25.8 cm (10 1/8 inch). Weight: 696 grams (before packing).

If for any reason you are unhappy with your item please let us know as soon as possible, and we will do our best to put things right.
