Japanese Satsuma Ware Vase by Kinkozan Beach Visit Meiji Antique c1880

A late 19th century Meiji period Satsuma vase by Kinkozan. It is well decorated with a scene of a family visiting the beach with boats in the water and distant hills. The reverse is painted with a perched bird and a flowering tree in a waterside scene with a distant building and mountain. There is extensive gilt over the cobalt blue ground.

Clearly marked to the base signed Kinkozan in Japanese kanji. Generally very good, there is fine crazing which is intentional on Satsuma ware.

Some rubbing of the gilt to the inside the rim and sides. A small patch of matt glaze inside the rim, (see image 3 just above the white panel reflection from the lighting), caused by something touching this area in the kiln during firing (usually a piece of pot from an exploded item in the kiln). Height: 14 cm (5 1/2 inch).
