We offer a late nineteenth century Japanese earthenware moon flask vase decorated on each side with enameled branches of white flowers outlined in gilt. Two butterflies on one side and a single butterfly on the reverse flutter by the flowers. The body of the vase has a deep red coloration at the top fading to a softer shade at the base. The neck and base are ivory in color and decorated with gilt moriage.
The vase has very fine crazing which is more readily seen on the inner neck and base. There are black markings on the base but not a recognizable signature character. The vase weighs 12.8 ounces and measures 7 1/2" in height, 5 3/4" in width and 1 1/2 in depth. The neck opening measures 1 5/16" in diameter and the base measures 2 1/16" in diameter.The Japanese floral moon flask vase is presented in very good antique condition free of chips, cracks, breaks or repairs.
