Museum Quality Meiji Moto Yama / Genzan Satsuma / Moriage Raised Relief Vase

If you are on the search for just the one very special piece of Japanese Porcelain, then this might fit the bill....... It is a large Satsuma / Moriage Vase, fully marked to the base and in superb condition. It stands 15.5 / 39.5cm tall and weighs 5 kilos.

It has raised relief work, with moriage details, lots of gold work, texturing, piercing, and wonderful colours - it has had, basically, the lot thrown at it. To each side is a raised relief scene, to one side what appears to be a fisherman in a boat rocked by waves, with a pagoda in the background. To the other side a woman with scroll on the back of a golden bird - possibly Bensaiten, again, with a pagoda scene to the backgrund.

The entire vase is covered with raised foliage and trees, and is beautifully formed. The mark to the base has a clan mark - a nod to Shimazu, but not, I think, a Shimazu mark. The'signature' appears to be that of Moto Yama - Genzan, and the vase dates to the late Meiji or possibly early Taisho period (1890 - 1912).

I have really looked over this one, and can't find any damage - having said that, the design is incredibly intricate, and it is possible that I might have missed some small detail........ But it isn't anything that a magnifying glass and a couple of hours of serious work has shown up. This item has been in the family for decades - I'm not sure how it originally came into our possession, but the family have generational links with the region.

It has been used as a vase, and has an internal metal tube container - which has worked, but is most definitely not original...... IF YOU WOULD LIKE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION, PHOTOGRAPHS OR WHATEVER, JUST ASK......... I have put the maximum cost into the details below - but it is almost certainly going to be less expensive for your part of the world. We are currently emptying attics and sheds where the family has hoarded for decades, so some interesting stuff is turning up - with quite a few vintage but unused items amongst the treasures. So, if this is the sort of thing you are interested in, it might be worth keeping an eye on the listings for a while...... Will be carefully packed to foil the postmen.

Most customers are great, even when things go wrong, as they sometimes will. Our Feedback is good, especially considering that most of the things we sell are delicate breakable vintage items.

I post daily, unless the car breaks down or we're flooded, or the mice running this computer escape from their little wheel, or I have a terrible hangover from celebrating with Krug Champagne our latest e bay sale, or something. All our prices are in Pounds Sterling, the currency used on our small island. NOT dollars, Moon Tokens or little Glass Beads.

We live in a house heated by log fires.......... Yes, I know that sounds stroppy, but its either make this clear at the beginning or lose the will to live........... If you don't, and the item goes missing, I'll send you the proof of posting so that you can make a claim from the post office.

But don't rely on this. We will only post to ITALY on an INTERNATIONAL SIGNED FOR service - far to much goes missing otherwise. The post office will not insure delicate items...........

It is your responsibility to read the listing properly. Will, funnily enough, probably not look as if they were made yesterday. Our Vintage and Antique items will have age related wear. We will detail any damage, or serious wear - we will also let you know if the item is, in fact, in mint condition. We would like paying for items you have bought, this is the usual arrangement between buyers and sellers...........

If you can't do that for any good reason, let us know....... Please, we don't bite, much. Tell you it is Gold when it is Brass, Get the maker wrong i. E Wedgewood instead of Marks and Spencers or something similar.

Post Office Exorbitant Price Hike........... Whilst you might think that four out of five on the dsr ratings if you bother to fill them in......... I never do I must admit is good, e bay don't think the same way. Only 5/5 is ok with them. We do our best to be fair, but we really can't help the post office charges.

We can control when we post items, but once in the hands of the post office, there isn't much we can do......... In an attempt to keep overheads down, and prices as low as we can, for the period 1st April until the 1st October 2022, we will be posting twice a week - Mondays and Thursdays instead of every day.......
