THIS LISTING IS FOR A PAIR OF BEAUTIFUL 19th C. THESE WONDERFUL VASES ARE PAINTED WITH POLYCHROME ENAMELS EMBELLISHED WITH GOLD OF VILLAGE SCENE WITH WOMEN. EACH WOMAN IS CARRYING A DIFFERENT ITEM, ONE HAS A FAN AND ANOTHER HAS A VASE, A BOX, ETC. WITH DELICATE PINK FLOWER BLOSSOMS AND WHITE ENAMELED JEWELS AROUND THE UPPER RIM. EACH VASE IS SIGNED "SOKO CHINA, HAND PAINTED" WITH UNIDENTIFIED COMPANY OR ARTIST'S MARK IN CENTER.

MEASURE 5" HIGH WITH A TOP DIAMETER OF 1", BASE DIAMETER IS 1 1/2" AND THE MAXIMUM WIDTH IS 2 3/4". BOTH VASES ARE IN EXCELLENT ESTATE CONDITION WITH NO NO NOTED FLAWS. THE ENAMELING AND GILDING ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION. SATSUMA IS A CREAMY EARTHENWARE USUALLY DECORATED WITH JAPANESE FIGURES WITH EXPRESSIVE FACIAL FEATURES. THIS WARE WAS GENERALLY CREATED FOR THE EXPORT MARKET OF THE MID-19th CENTURY THRU THE TURN OF THE 20th CENTURY TO CATER TO WESTERN MARKETS.
