The vases are painted with polychrome enamels and is embellished with delicate gilt designs throughout. The decoration features male and female figures in assorted poses on four panels, one on each side. The top of the vase is decorated with mutiple patterns down to the shoulder area and around the low pedestal base. Vases are marked with unidentified gilt character mark on the base with one having an additional old sticker which we have left in place. This can be easily removed should you so desire. Measure 9 1/2" with a 2 7/8" top opening, are 4" wide at shoulder area and have a 3" diameter base. Combined weight is just under 4 pounds. Both vases are in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws.

Satsuma is a creamy earthenware usually decorated with Japanese figures with expressive facial features. This ware was generally created for the export market of the mid-19th Century thru the turn of the 20th Century to cater to Western markets.
