A pair of late 19th or early 20th century Japanese Millepapillon Satsuma ware vases. They have deep cobalt blue grounds with gilt tracery. The main panels feature floral designs surround by numerous tiny butterflies which is not a pattern that is commonly seen. There are no marks to the bases.
The rims have an instep, so it is possible they originally had lids. Some wear to the gilt. Crazing in some areas, typical for period.
Perhaps originally came with lids. Height: 19.8 cm (7 3/4 inch) Width: 11.5 cm (4 1/2 inch) Weight: 1190 grams (before packing) Stock Code: 0372 FB17-1.
