Overall the vases depict a scene of rural life with women and children and there are acer type trees. There are hills in the distance and a lake view. Around the tops there are leaves in a formal border design.
They are signed to the base for Koshida in a gilt lined box. Koshida were a highly regarded maker and produced some quite exceptional work, their items now being much sought after by collectors. This pair dates around 1890 to the Meiji period. The usual crazing as expected for Satsuma.
Some wear, mostly to the gilt on the rims and the gilt detail to the top sections. One of the pair has a short hairline to the rim. Height: 25 cm (9 7/8 inch).Width: 10.3 cm (4 inch).
