STUNNING SIGNED LATER MEIJI PERIOD SATSUMA. This is a stunning hand painted satsuma circular covered box which date, I would guess, to the latter Meiji period. In a circular lidded form, it is depicted as very fine quality hand painted enamel and heavily gilded ceramic (miniature) box with finely and minutely portrayed images of a floral nature to its lid with a central lozenge with enamel painted colourful flowers surrounded by gilt flowers on a dark blue ground. While to the inner lid and base is lovely hand painted images of flower sprays. The quality of the painting is quite fine, so I hope my photographs do them some justice.
The base is marked with gold hand painted signature on a red lozenge (Possibly Motodani under the Shimzu clan - I'm unsure as it's a bit illegible and I really don't have the knowlege) mark and retains an original paper price? Label - see photographs and details. It measures 3 3/4 (9.5cm) Dia. X 1 3/4 (4.5cm) H approx; and is in excellent condition with no defect at all to report - see photographs and details.
