SUPERB, MUSEUM QUALITY SATSUMA VASE. Meiji era Satsuma vase of the finest quality. Exquisite detail, artfully rendered in stunning hand painted polychrome enamels and sublime raised gilding, representing the finest of Japanese Meiji Satsuma ware.

The superb scene wraps completely around the main body of this spectacular vase: The elegant figures, consist of the mythical wise sages and Bodhisattvas who are said to assist people during their life and guide them into the realm of enlightenment. Tastefully attired in precisely brocaded kimonos, engaged in various pastimes, and surrounded by spiritual accoutrements, the figures engage in conversation, fan themselves, and read from scrolls, all for the benefit of sentient beings. All the imagery is exceptionally rendered in sublime coloration, further highlighted with museum quality raised gilding. Absolutely stunning, with highly detailed additional patterning adorning the neck and base of this magnificent vase. The upper shoulder displays impeccable designs of precise quality along with the imperial Shimazu crest.

Too much to list, see photos for all of the spectacular detail. Measures approximately 6" high and 4" wide, signed on the underside, and in excellent antique condition with just minor wear to the gilding. Appears to have been carefully stored away as a treasure for over a century by the fortunate owners. An exquisite centerpiece for the discriminating collector of world class Japanese antiques.
